Paint Historic Waxahachie 2015

This month is the beginning of "Paint Historic Waxahachie" which means that artists participating in the annual event can paint at designated locations every weekend, leading up to the awards, dinner and sales on Friday, June 5th. The art will be for sale through Sunday at the old Citizens National Bank on the Square in Waxahachie.

These four samples are from the last two weekends and feature rural landscapes near Waxahachie and extending out to Maypearl, about 15 miles west. The first one, "Arc de Treeomphe" was the most enjoyable as I saw exactly two cars during my time there, the mail carrier and one other artist. The weather was breezy and overcast with a slight mist in the air which made for lots of atmosphere.

"Youngsters" was another fun painting as I was hoping to capture these shade-loving cows before they moved on. I imagined that they would leave right as I got set up, but they stayed there for a good 45 minutes, long enough to block them in. I also enjoyed visiting with their owners, the Carrions from Dallas, who stopped by to check out my work.
