#213 Lobby Exit

I took my photo reference for this painting from inside the Rogers Hotel in downtown Waxahachie as this man was exiting the lobby.

The hotel was built in 1912 and currently houses two restaurants and several shops. In 1984 it was featured, along with the entire town, in the movie Places in the Heart, starring Sally "you really like me" Fields.

It was also the spring training home to several major league baseball teams including the Detroit Tigers from 1916 to 1918, Cincinnati Reds in 1919 and the Chicago White Sox in 1921 before Florida and Arizona were the norm.

On a personal note, the hotel is linked to our home in Waxahachie which was built in 1911 by a barber shop owner name Noah Pierce that had his business in the basement. I like the possibility of thinking he may have cut Ty Cobbs hair back then.
